Story
Thank You for supporting us in raising money for SANDS charity and the awareness of Baby Loss.
Sadly on the 15/4/17 we lost our Baby Boy.
The pregnancy was hard and with its complications but Bobby was always happy and healthy and we were reassured that everything was under control.
The post mortem was carried out following his death and the consultants are sure that Bobby's pre term labour was caused by Severe Acute Chorioamnionitis which is a uterine infection, causing inflammation and premature rupture of the membranes (breaking of waters). The cause of the infection is unknown (hospital didn’t do any checks following labour and swans taken in the days leading up went missing) Bobby caught congenital pneumonia due to this infection which caused his death. It’s been a tough time from pregnancy, to loss and lots of ongoing investigations. The hospital found no neglect in their duty of care during pregnancy or labour causing the outcome but many flaws were found in the report including the loss of a very important specimen taken to determine infection, not clearly documenting and identifying pain to give Cerys the support she needed in labour amongst other apologies.
Together we can all help to make a difference so no more babies die. 15 babies die everyday!
Sands is a UK charity that works across the country to support anyone affected by the death of a baby; improve the care bereaved parents receive from health care and other professionals; and reduce the number of babies who do die by funding research and working closely with other organisations to create a world where fewer babies die.
Sands was founded by bereaved parents in 1978 who found that there was no access to support following the deaths of their babies. Since then Sands has grown, but parents who have experienced baby death are still at the core of everything they do.
Sands are made up of staff and volunteers. The Sands Helpline works together with local volunteer Groups and befrienders to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby has access to compassionate, experienced support.
They have a Bereavement Care team, with support from Sands Groups and trains Health Care Professionals to offer appropriate care to parents when their baby dies.
Thanks to the hard work of their supporters, they are also able to fund research to help answer the questions that surround stillbirth and neonatal death. They fund some research directly and support other studies by helping to recruit participants or acting as co-applicants on funding applications.
