We support Royal Marines and their familes to overcome their challenges

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April this year, I will be running 166.4 km in 24 hours in aid of The Royal Marines Charity
The event will predominantly take place as part of the Centurion Running Thames Path 100 mile point to point run conducted entirely on the Thames Path National Trail, beginning in Richmond, London.

The race culminates 100 arduous miles later at Queens College, Oxford University Sports Ground.
Starting at 1000 hrs Sat 29 Apr 17, I’ll have until 1400 hrs the next day to reach the finish. Here I’ll register at the checkpoint, and then run an extra 4 miles to ensure that 166.4 km is covered. I intend to complete the first 100 miles in 20 hours, giving me some breathing space and 4 miles to cool down.

The route consists of paved, crushed gravel and trail pathway and although the majority of it is relatively flat, with a total climb of only 1900 feet, the terrain will present its own challenges with exhaustion, dehydration, nausea, muscle fatigue, cramp and blisters being a few of the hurdles to overcome.

Why this charity?

The Royal Marines Charity are a single, unified and integrated charity for the Royal Marines extended Corps family, where cadets, the serving Corps, veterans, and families are supported through life with benevolence, comradeship, transition support and amenities, underpinned with a cohesive sense of heritage and esprit de corps. This translates into some 125,000 potential beneficiaries.

The Charity seeks to support the wounded and injured in any way, whilst also looking to improve the quality of life for each and every Royal Marine. This support continues long after our people have severed their formal links to the Corps as the Charity actively seeks to build lasting relationships with leading UK companies so that Royal Marines leaving the Corps can go on to find meaningful second careers.

Sadly, they also provide a death grant to the next of kin of any member of the Corps who has died in service.

A bit about me

I have served in the Royal Marines for over 23 years and have seen first hand the benefits provided by RM Charities.  Therefore this cause is one that is close to my heart.

Since 2012 I have completed 14 Ultra Marathons, including the infamous Marathon des Sables, 154 miles across the Sahara desert and 100 mile continuous races.  I am mentally prepared to take on a run of this magnitude and fully appreciate the amount of training involved.

All donations however small are very much appreciated.
