When your daughter gets a marathon ballot place and you don't, it raises the question as to what to do...well, it did with me!  This was probably going to be my only opportunity to run the London marathon with one of my children, but I thought no, I cannot do the fund raising thing again.....and then...

It just so happened that my good friend, Jackie Scully, a breast cancer survivor, a fellow hippy, as well as being a running nutter like me, posted about the Cutty Sark Trust (Royal Museums Greenwich) looking for three more runners. Jackie is getting MARRIED on the Cutty Sark at 7.30 a.m. on the morning of the marathon. That's amazing in itself, but she and her newly wedded husband, and her dad, are then running the marathon.  So before I knew it, I had messaged her to say I would love to have one of the marathon places...and so here I am...raising money for this amazingly iconic ship, that sailed the seven seas, was the fastest tea clipper of her time and is at the heart of London's heritage as part of the National Historic Fleet, and despite the fire that so nearly destroyed her in 2007, she stands proudly at Mile 6 of the marathon, sending the runners safely on their journey towards the Mall (albeit via 20 more miles of London), and Jackie and her husband off into wedded bliss! 

Jackie is a fighter and such an inspiration to me. She follows the marathon with trekking the Great Wall of China, raising money for their own chosen charities by donating their wedding gifts and honeymoon! She has inspired me to rise to the challenge so that I can run alongside Jenna (that's if I can keep up!) and fundraise towards the upkeep of this majestic beauty.

So, I would like to ask you to help me raise much needed funds that are required for the upkeep and safekeeping of this beautiful vessel.  If it wasn't for donations like yours, Jackie and her husband-to-be would not be able to have their wedding aboard this majestic beauty, and children (like myself aged 9 when I first visited) would miss out on the opportunity to visit this wonderful example of our shipping history. Can you imagine London without such an amazing treasure?  I can't.
