We raise funds at Nottingham to transform lives.

Story

This Easter I am one of 38 students from the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of Nottingham who will build a nursery school in the rural village of Lephepane, Limpopo, South Africa. This is one of the poorest, least developed parts of the country, with only a small one room nursery for the village (pictured above).

We will each volunteer to work for 2 weeks over a 4 week period alongside local contractors to provide a bright, clean and safe nursery school for over 50 children aged between new born and 6 years. We intend to create an environment the children would otherwise not have and provide employment to local people, not only during the building process but also going forward, a space to work as teachers, cooks and carers.

As second year architecture students this provides us with a hugely worthwhile cause alongside the opportunity to research, design and build for the first time. You can follow our progress by visiting our website www.projectmyemyela.wixsite.com/sa17
or liking our Facebook page www.facebook.com/projectmyemyela

As volunteers we will give our time freely and pay for our own flights and accommodation. However we need to raise an additional £1000 each, a total of £38000 to pay for the building costs. The money we raise will be spent on materials, tools, sub contracted works and project logistics associated with daily transport to and from the village.

We intend to raise the funds by selling homemade cakes and merchandise, by arranging social functions and through personal sponsorship. If you would like to make a donation to the build costs of the nursery school and towards my £1000 target, I would be extremely grateful. Please follow the link above.

Thank you!!
