The biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK is suicide. Despite all the horrible diseases we could contract, accidents we could be in or potential ways we could kill each other, we’re still killing ourselves more frequently than any of those things.

From the last set of data supplied by the Office of National Statistics, over 75% of all suicides are by men - 4630 in total.

These are your fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, sons, cousins, grandfathers, friends and peers.

A big part of the challenge is that men have been taught to bottle it up - and because they see talking as a weakness, this silence is in effect killing them.

But there is no strength in silence - there is REAL strength though in asking for support...a brave move.

So...led by the developers of ManMade, an approach to supporting men who are finding it challenging to survive in an ever changing world, the ManMade team has been born - and we want to make a difference by hitting this devastating epidemic head on.

Now I like to cycle...but never have I taken a challenge on like this. I have committed to riding 4630 miles (one male life lost per mile) over the period of a year starting September 11th 2016 and completing by World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th 2017).
