We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Every two tears we drive our old Triumphs round Britain on a
2,000 mile 48 hour marathon-it tests the crew and the car, most of the cars are
over 40 years old and the crews not fairing much better!

This is the 10th time I have taken part in the
event –this year marks the 50 anniversary of the Run, since the mid-80s the
event has been a fund raiser for many worthy charities, this year’s being Guide
dogs for the blind.

Why do we do it..well here is my story

“Social media is full of sound bites and general motivational
postcards etc most of it rubbish. -must admit I did like the one about sharks
not giving a toss about Mondays, just getting on with being a shark and biting
people… Anyway I digress in my view things could always be a lot worse, and
it’s always good to try and help as much as you can, particularly as you get
older and life turns into a bit of lottery- you have to grab every half chance
you get to do something. It often means you have no
"spare" time, generally skint and don't know the plot line of
Eastenders (no bad thing) Some of you may have noticed me posting from the shed
late at night.. Why in the shed so late?. Well I've only got 30 days or so to
finish the "Shedi 2000" -an old knacker of a Triumph 2000 that I
entered in this year’s Club Triumph Round Britain reliability run - the 10th I
have done and the 50th anniversary event ..I am on the organising committee now
(see note above about helping) ..The car is miles off I still need to finish
building the engine, re-wire the car, refit the interior and re-build the front
suspension then MOT it and run it in! ..Why put myself and family through all
this hard work and stress. Well back to my first point -some don't have the
choice, I am lucky- reasonably fit healthy and active, some don't have those
luxuries, the Event has raised thousands and thousands over the years for those
less fortunate. Some words I wrote about its history and why we do it can be
found on the Blog I write for the event-It may help non-petrol heads understand
what is so special about the event! http://ctrbrr.blogspot.co.uk/p/the-route.html

One of the biggest challenges for me is rescuing cars to do the
event -seeing if I can get the "lost cause" to the start line not
giving up putting in the 2.00am finishes, I’ve done the event a few times with
cars that should have had a career on the oval banger tracks before being
scrapped. This one is no different. Well it is..It’s by far the biggest lost
cause I've taken on in such a short time! I'm in too deep and its personal now..Grand
Shedi master "JHP" this one will  make you proud!- I won’t give up, I won’t
complain about Mondays I will continue to bite stuff and work like a dog
knowing that I will be doing some good eventually ..And that's where you lot
come in please donate whatever you can afford for Guide Dogs..You really will
be helping others whilst I shuffle around on cold shed floors at 2.00am ..

Cheers Mr Shed

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
