On the night of Thursday 16th December 2010 – as Muslims

commemorated the day of Ashura – Salim Akbar suddenly suffered four heart

attacks, despite his youth and having no known cardiac history. Despite

efforts to revive him as he remained on a life support machine, Salim

died, after dhuhr on Friday 17th November, surrounded by

many of his loved ones. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’oon.

Salim may not have been renowned outside his community during his
life, though his deeds were known to Allah; but, as news of his death
has spread, evidently he has touched and inspired the hearts of many,
whether Muslim or non.

This is why, six years on, we are fundraising on behalf of Salim Akbar as Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity). The Messenger Of Allah (saw) said:  "When a man dies, his acts come to an end, but three, recurring charity or knowledge (by which people) benefit, or a pious son, who prays for him (for the deceased)." [Muslim].

Abu Hurairah reported, "The Prophet (saw) said, 'The righteous works that continue to benefit a believer after his death (or sadaqa jaariyah) include the knowledge that he taught and spread among others, a righteous son whom he leaves behind, or a copy of the Qur'an that he bequeaths to his inheritors, or a mosque that he builds, or a rest house that he builds for the wayfarers, or a canal of water that he digs for the benefit of others, or a charity that he gives out of his property during his life while he is sound of health. He will continue to receive reward for all these even after his death.' [Ibn Majah].
