We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

Lilian McAuley has been married to Bertie for 60 years. Together they have 7 children, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grand children. She is best described as a doting wife, mother & grandmother. A genuinely loyal and charitable woman.

Lilian nursed her mother who had Alzheimer's Disease, so she witnessed first hand just how awful and cruel dementia is. Unfortunately her worst fears came to pass and in January 2015 Lilian was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. This awful disease not only robbed her of her memories, created confusion and anxiety but perhaps most heartbreakingly it sabotaged her personality.

As most carers will have experienced there came a time when we could no longer meet Lilian's complex needs. Following advisement from health professionals the difficult and heartbreaking decision had to be made to place her into a care home.

In tribute to Lilian and to demonstrate the kind of person she is we would like to raise as much money as possible for both Alzheimer's Research UK (ARUK) and Madelayne Court Resident's Comfort Fund. Please be aware this page will make a donation directly to ARUK, if you would like your donation to be split between ARUK and Madelayne Court then please contact us directly by private message or visiting our facebook page.

We will be planning a year of various events and appreciate all the support we can get! To keep up-to-date with all of our events, including photos and information on our total raised so far (both cash and online) please follow us on facebook @Memoriesformum. Please share and support this very worthy cause.

This is Lil's Legacy, these are our Memories for Mum xx

Thank you
