Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects, among other things, the way an individual relates to their environment and their interaction with other people. The main areas of difficulty are social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and is often paired with a form of learning difficulty. With such a broad spectrum it is widely misunderstood and difficult to categorize with a single symptom as it is vastly different for each indiviual. More often than not someone with autism can seemingly go unnoticed and 'blend in' as it is not a visible condition. Having a sibling with autism has made us and our families aware of how vital the correct diagnosis and support is in order for each individual to reach their full potential and live a fulfilled life.
