Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, which is raising money for the Park Mill Restoration Fund at Bateman's in East Sussex.

In August, myself and some of my colleagues will be walking across the Weald of Kent and East Sussex in order to raise money to get our watermill at Bateman's repaired and making flour as it should (see below for more information about Park Mill).

The walk will take seven days to complete, so come and cheer us on. The walk will start at Bateman's on 16th August, and we will be visiting Spriver's Garden, Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst Castle, Smallhythe Place, Lamb House, Winchelsea countryside, Battle countryside and Bodiam castle.

We will be raising money through sponsorship from individuals and local businesses, who I hope will support us along the way.

This will be quite a challenge for us- no kale-munching gym bunnies here! We've never done anything like this before.

Park Mill is an 18th Century watermill situated on the banks of the River Dudwell on the Bateman's estate in East Sussex. Prolific poet and author Rudyard Kipling purchased Park Mill alongside Bateman's in 1902, and it features in many of his best-loved poems and stories such as 'Puck of Pook's Hill', 'Below the mill dam' and 'Sussex'. The mill was initially restored back to working order in the 1970s, but needs our help again, as the main axle tree that is turned by the waterwheel has rotted and collapsed after 40 years' service, bringing to a halt the production of Bateman's flour.
