We fight pulmonary fibrosis and infection to find a cure for respiratory diseases

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My dad Jamie has Bronchiectasis, an incurable respiratory infection he's had since childhood. Anyone who knows him knows he's never let it hold him back, running his own business, having a love of travel (and Florida in particular!) and having a social life few could match. Recently though it has got progressively worse, and started to heavily impact on his way of life. Breathing Matters are a charity which do invaluable research into these little known diseases, their website explains:

'The main symptom is recurrent chest infections, in which the patient develops a cough productive of green phlegm, and perhaps increased shortness of breath, fever, chest pains and malaise. In between infections, patients with severe disease can produce large amounts of green and thick phlegm each day even when well. Patients with severe disease may also be short of breath when walking fast due to the underlying lung damage.

Once bronchiectasis has developed, the damage cannot be reversed.

For many years, the disease of bronchiectasis has not received the attention it deserves, recent research shows that maybe 100,000 people in the UK with the condition. There has been so little research into bronchiectasis that even the most basic questions about why patients get chest infections (called exacerbations) are not really known, and there are many questions about the best long term treatments that still need answering.'

26 miles, 3 peaks, 12 hours...that's the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.

Regardless of the weather, hiking across the Pennine Range in the Yorkshire Dales national park.

The challenge itself includes reaching the summit of the following three mountains (1600m height in total), one after the other and the covering of the 26 mile distance between them on foot, and all within 12 hours;

The mountains included in the challenge are;

Whernside (736m/2,415 ft), Ingleborough (723m/2,372 ft) Pen-y-ghent (694m/2,277 ft) We'll be doing this on Saturday 28th May 2016, setting off from Ribblesdale at (or around) sunrise.
