I am running in support of Elizabeth's Legacy of Hope.   The Hope family were involved in a road traffic accident which caused the loss of one life in the family and a young child losing a limb.  This has led them to a highly successful national campaign to raise funds for children in Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Liberia and India   The charity supports over 300 children, and has also supported the training of a surgeon in Tanznia who has treated over a thousand young people    ELOH is the guest charity for the Curry Run this year.   We are minded that service personnel, should they be injured are generally highly fit and supported by a wonderful service medical network.   But whether through war, landmines, illness or accident, there are tens of thousands of young people each year worldwide who lose limbs with none of that access to treatment and support.   Every day, young amputees watch from the side lines because they cannot join in their friends' games.    Every day young amputees hide indoors because of the embarrassment and stigma of being different.  Every day young amputees miss out on education because they cannot get to school.   There are, in fact, 40 million child amputees worldwide, 90% of who are unable to attend school, and only 5% of whom have access to prosthetic limbs.

About the charity

We provide life-changing support for children who have lost limbs through war, accidents, and lack of access to medical care. ELoH provides new limbs, surgery, education, and advocacy for the world's most vulnerable amputees. We believe all child amputees deserve to live a happy and healthy life.
