I will be running to raise money for RISE domestic abuse services in
Sussex. 

It is hard to imagine that 1 in 4 women will experience abuse at some point in their lifetimes.  Many of these women will have children ,  90% of whom will be in the same or next room when the abuse occurs.

• Domestic abuse has a higher rate of repeat victimisation than any other crime.  
• On average a woman will be attacked 35 times before she reports the abuse, 
• Over half of all rape is committed by a partner or ex-partner 
• Domestic abuse is the single highest cause of homicide in women in the UK.   
• Domestic abuse doesn’t affect only heterosexual women,  men and those in same-sex relationships can also be victims of violence in the home.  

These are national figures but they translate locally to the RISE Helpline handling nearly 2,500 calls last year. 

• As well as crisis accommodation in two refuges, 
• RISE also offers crisis appointments, helpline, counselling, housing, legal and financial advice, solicitors appointments, support groups, play therapy and 1-to-1 support. 

It costs over £4,657 every day to keep these vital, life saving services
available for local families, so every penny you can spare will help keep safe some of the most vulnerable in our community.

I deeply believe that victims of Domestic Violence need support and safety to regain their confidence and feel respected to be able to make a full and meaningful contribution our society. I decided to run for RISE because of the supportive programs they offer to both adult and juvenile victims.
