Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money to support research into the MAP vaccine which I believe is the best step forward towards a cure for Crohn’s disease.

Crohn’s disease is a debilitating and aggressive form of inflammatory bowel disease which affects around 250,000 people in the UK, 80% of cases result in invasive surgery. Currently there is no cure for Crohn’s and I want to support this cause to get a cure for all those who are suffering.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's nearly three years ago and several undiagnosed years in my teens and twenties, I have experienced some severe symptoms and battling every day taking medication to ease my symptoms, with terrible side effects. I am running out of treatment options before I have to endure surgery, which only offers hope of managing my Crohn’s.

Professor Hermon-Taylor and King’s College are developing a MAP test which can identify the MAP bacteria in the tissue of Crohn’s sufferers.

The finalisation of the development of the very important, simple diagnostic MAP blood test will bring this vaccine to the human trial stage. The only thing that stands in the way of completing both the test and the human trial is a lack of funding.
