My late father, Garth Pettitt, was an ambassador for UNICEF in retirement after working for overseas aid over forty years in ODA/DIFD and the Foreign Office. I'll be thinking of him and his work as I run along the West Sands Beach in St Andrews, not so very far from East Kilbride where he worked for ODA in the 1980s.
