This year I am riding the Prudential Ride London 100, and raising money for the London Cycling Campaign, who lobby for safe space for cyclists.
Despite the name, the London Cycling Campaign has a nationwide impact. As an example, two of their headline campaigns have been adopted by local cycle campaign groups across the country:
- Space for Cycling - lobbying local councillors to demand better conditions for cycling in the local area
- Lorries - reducing the danger that lorries and heavy goods vehicles pose to cyclists
In addition, there’s loads of other great stuff that the LCC do to make cycling a safer and more inclusive activity. They do some brilliant grass-roots work with children to make it easier for families to cycle – something that’s close to my heart at the moment.
Ride London is a challenge – 100 hilly miles, with some difficult climbs like Box Hill and Leith Hill along the way - so no easy feat for me! Having never ridden this far before, my personal goal is just to finish this year. If you are able to support me, even with something small, then it would be a great morale boost as I force my legs up one more climb!
