Story
Hello there!
Welcome to my fundraising page :-)
Just to tell you a bit about what I am doing and why...
On the 1st August 2015, I will be climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, that's Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. Sounds fun but never having climbed any of these before or even a mountain as high as these leisurely, I reckon it's going to be quite difficult! Especially doing all 3 in just 24 hours! (no relaxing picnics or view stops in this one!)
I am doing this in support of dear flat mate Oli Monks as part of his 'Nine for Nicky' campaign. It will be the 5th out of 9 challenges Oli is completing in raising money, a total target of £9000 for CICRA, Crohns In Childhood Research Association.
This charity is especially important to Oli and his family because his younger brother, Nicky, suffers from Crohns disease. Sadly the disease has been very disruptive for Nicky growing up, being in and out of hospital, missing school and friends. CICRA have been very supportive to the family and work closely with experts who help treat children such as Nicky, as well as being important in providing a wider understanding of the disease.
Briefly, Crohn's disease affects approximately 1 in 1000 people in the UK. It is the inflammation of one or more areas of the digestic tract, chronic and very debilitating. Treatments consist of a special liquid feed, drugs and surgery however there is no current cure.
Fundraising is extremely important as the charity receives no government funding. Money raised will maintain and further research and support, and to help find more effective treatment and an eventual cure.
Through the time I have known Oli, I have been in admiration of his dedication and tremendous efforts towards the charity. I feel privileged and excited to do my bit in support for a great cause and challenge!
Thank you for reading, and support in advance! Any donation is much appreciated!
