Life Cycle 5

Despite being a specialist in the treatment of breast cancer, Prof John Robertson is turning his attention to dementia this summer. Prof Robertson will be participating in the University of Nottingham Life Cycle 5 bike ride to help raise money for world-leading research into earlier dementia diagnosis and improved treatment. Over 800,000 people in the UK suffer from dementia and one in three of us has a family member or close friend who is affected. Although he has never participated in a sponsored activity previously, Prof Robertson has been inspired to join the Life Cycle ride in memory of his mother who in the last few years of her life suffered from dementia. He is also conscious that some of the patients with breast cancer whom he treats also have this debilitating condition. Prof Robertson will be cycling 170 miles over 3 days along the Way of the Roses route, starting in Morecambe and encountering some challenging hills in the Pennines, before finishing in Bridlington. The money raised will go towards the Life Cycle 5 campaign which in total aims to raise £350,000 to apply the University’s world-leading expertise in MRI scanning to the study of dementia and other degenerative conditions of the brain.
