Story
On Wednesday 22 April at 11am, my team-mates (all from the international maritime community) and I will begin our Mission RASI adventure. It's an endurance relay row around Singapore's 140km coastline and the first of its kind. This coincides with Singapore Maritime Week and Singapore's 50th anniversary year. We are rowing in two classic ocean-going Cornish pilot gigs.
Why are we doing it? What could possibly be worth all those blisters and all that chafing over the past 6 months of training?! Mission RASI's Facebook Page has loads of photos covering our training and there are a number of videos on Youtube including this excellent footage which will hopefully inspire you to contribute https://youtu.be/lVhBIF5xMvk
The event will also be covered live in Singapore on Channel 5
This is all in aid of raising S$ 750,000 (Pounds 375,000) for The Mission to Seafarers - the world's largest international maritime welfare charity providing help and support to crews in ports worldwide. Many seafarers are gainfully employed by reputable companies and work in comfortable conditions. However, there are a significant number that endure fatigue, dreadful living quarters and who work in hazardous conditions. It is these people who will benefit from your donations.
