I'm fascinated by Iain Sinclair's concept of "psycho-geography", and the idea of seeing the UK (while it still is) end-to-end, in however limited a scope, really appeals. When my friends suggested that they were doing this, I jumped at the opportunity.

In addition, it's a great opportunity to support a charity like the Alzheimer's Society. Experience with my father-in-law who succumbed to dementia after a lengthy deterioration has taught me that not only the sufferers suffer - the sooner we can offer some real respite from this horrible illness the better.
