Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be running the Brighton 10K to raise awareness and much needed funds for the Empire Faith and War project.

In Summer 2014 the Empire Faith and War project held an exhibition at SOAS to commemorate the role of Indian and Sikh soldiers  in World War 1.

The Empire Faith and War team require further funding in order to collate stories and accounts about these incredible men who traveled half way around the world to fight a war for a land that they had never even visited. The project highlights that the commonwealth people were an integral part of the war, and recognises the sacrifices that they made for us .

Why Brighton? Well, Brighton Pavilion was where injured Indian soldiers were nursed – soldiers such as Manta Singh who died of his wounds after having saved the life of his British officer. He was cremated on a hill above the city.

I feel a close affinity to this project as I am from South Africa myself, and many South Africans also made a forgotten contribution to the War. That is why I am taking part in the 10k: in memory of these brave men.

Please give generously. My employer will match any donations that you give £ for £, to a maximum of £1,000.

I hope you will support me: With your help they will be remembered.

Thank you.
