Story

This is the ultimate personal challenge for me not only because I have never ridden a bike so far - indeed a short commute to work is hardly great training! - but also because the cause is one very close to my heart. I lost my father to dementia very recently and know at first hand what an awful illness it can be. Dad was many things but above all else he was a teacher who loved inquisitiveness, knowledge and learning - indeed he gained his PhD when he was 78. To see the mind of someone like this so cruelly eroded and to see my Mum bravely support, care for and nurse him are incentives enough for me to want to help find better and new treatments for the disease. My very small contribution is to try and help by pedalling across the Pennines and with the generosity of sponsors I hope to raise £1000 for the cause.

So if you can help that would be great. I have stocked up with lots of padding for my saddle and baths salts for aching legs but I'm still really looking forward to it all.....I think!

Thanks for reading my story and here's to a successful ride!

Best wishes
