Fundraising for St Peter Ad Vincula
Story
Apart from providing a challenge to myself in my retirement, I am walking to raise money for two very worthwhile causes:
- St Peter Ad Vincula Parish Church, Wisborough Green; and
- The Motor Neurone Disease Association(MNDA)
In July last year Annie and I had breakfast in a remote farmhouse on the Pennine Way with a man named John Greer, who was in the process of walking from one end of the UK to the other. His inspiration was such that on 11th April 2015, I shall be standing at Lands End with a pack on my back about to start my own voyage of about 1100 miles on foot with the goal of raising as much money as possible for my two chosen charities. My planned journey will take me away from as many roads as possible and will follow parts of many of the National Trails such as The South West Coastal Path, Offa's Dyke, Ribble Valley, The Pennine Way, The Southern Upland Way, The West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way.
St Peter Ad Vincula Church is both ancient and beautiful. However, its function remains as the spiritual focal point of our village and is home to a very active christian community. This community is not stuck in the past but is aware that christianity is as relevant today as it has been for over 2000 years. As a meeting point, the building needs facilities that reflect the times and it is for this reason that improvement works are needed. These include the installation of a toilet in the existing vestry, replacement of the existing vestries, improvements to the vehicular access, servicing the organ and providing catering facilities in the north porch. The overall target could be in the region of £200,000 for these consented works.
