Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Every day 25 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour - that's over 9,000 people every year. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40 in the UK. This charity’s aim is to improve the diagnosis, treatment and understanding of brain tumours and to one day beat this awful disease.

This year alone they will invest £2.5million into world-class, pioneering research that's been through stringent, independent peer review. As the only charity fighting brain tumours on all fronts, they also provide a comprehensive support and information service and raise awareness of this disease to improve outcomes and reduce diagnosis times.

80p in every £1 raised is invested in charitable objectives, making them a very lean, efficient and effective charity.

Why does funding research matter?

  • Less than 2% of cancer research funding in the UK is spent on brain tumours
  • 60% of people diagnosed with a brain tumour will die within one year.
  • Over the past 40 years, the number of people who survive for five years after a leukaemia diagnosis has more than trebled. The number who survive for five years after a brain tumour diagnosis has not even doubled
Research is the only way to change this for the thousands of people diagnosed with a brain tumour each year. The more funding we have, the faster we will reach a cure.

What your money could do:

£250 - Could help cover a day's research for one of our leading brain tumour researchers to further the understanding of a particular type of brain tumour, in order to provide more targeted treatments.

£100 - could fund one Support Group meeting for people living with a brain tumour and their families. This allows them to ask question and share stories with people in similar circumstances, gaining invaluable support from peers and healthcare professionals.

£50 - Could contribute to the funding of a crucial Clinical Trials Co-ordinator - the person who sets the brain tumour clinical trial up, runs the patient recruitment and processes the critical data produced from the trial.

£25 - Could cover the cost of providing the essential information needed by someone currently living with a brain tumour
