I have always dreamed of sailing, mostly whilst sitting on the beach watching the world go by, so when the opportunity arose to participate in the Isle of Wight Round the Island Race I jumped at it. I love the sea but I am a complete novice, the nearest I have ever got to sailing is crossing the channel on a P&O Ferry; so now having said that I will take up the challenge I am somewhat terrified and pretty sure that this experience may see me turning fifty shades of green. The challenge will be to stay upright and not capsized and hopefully just survive and not be the first man overboard. Apparently we are racing 1,600 other Yachts...best not to give me a compass, I'm one of those people who has to read a map upside down in order to travel in the right direction.

I am the Senior Sister at Keech Palliative Care Centre, Keech Hospice Care. We care for patients and their families with specialist palliative need who are deemed to be within the last two years of  their lives. The work is complex  and massively rewarding, I feel privileged to be able to accomplish the work that I do and am touched daily by the bravery and resilience of my patients and their families. In order for this service at Keech to continue we have to rely on fundraising and donations from the community.

Please sponsor me, It was a crazy impulsive decision that led me to saying yes to this event and now I am so excited with the opportunity that lies ahead; there is a massive amount of danger involved and I along with my fellow crew mates will be doing this challenge with only one days training the day before in the Solent, and when I say in the Solent I have a feeling that I may be in it more than out of it!
