Story
We decided to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro as a personal challenge over
a year ago and it's almost time to start our adventure!
The trip is
entirely self-funded meaning every penny raised goes directly to our chosen
charities; Home-Start and Help for Heroes.
Chris is a recently appointed Trustee for Home-Start Burton on Trent who are
the UK’s leading family support organisation. Home-Start helps families
with young children deal with whatever life throws at them.
Help for Heroes was chosen by Chris and John’s late friend Daz Preston. It is safe to safe that this
particular charity is close to the hearts of both John and Chris and they will
be completing this challenge in special memory of the dear friend Daz.
In preparation for their training Chris has given up beer for over month now,
which for those of you who know Chris best is a challenge in itself. Chris is
often found networking with a finest real ale in the infamous Coopers Tavern, Burton
on Trent which just so happens to be joined to one of the best curry houses in
the Midlands!
John admired Chris’s will power and dedication to training for this challenge and
said:
“Chris, if you can give up beer then so can I….I can still drink wine though
right?!”
So we travel out to Tanzania on 27th February and start our gruelling climb on
1st March. We will be following the Machame route and will spend 7 days
on the mountain.
We will be joined by the very enthusiastic and motivational Total Body Team
from Branston Golf & Country Club who are also raising funds for their
three chosen charities; TRISPTA, Canine Partners & Age UK Burton.
Please help us to raise money for two excellent causes and making a donation.
We have already raised over £4,000 by hosting a charity golf day, a sponsored
run, spin challenges and a quiz night.
