Event: Mission RASI, on 30 April 2015
We provide emergency support to seafarers to give help and hope for crews worldwide

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 22 and 23 April I  will be participating in Mission RASI (Row Around Singapore Island) - the first of its kind endurance relay row around Singapore.

The challenge is to circumnavigate Singapore’s 140km coastline within 24 hours in two classic ocean-going rowing boats with the aim of raising a total of S$750,000 (£375,000) for The Mission to Seafarers – the world’s largest international maritime welfare charity which, whether caring for victims of piracy, providing a lifeline to seafarers stranded in foreign ports, or simply providing a space to relax and a listening ear, is on hand night and day providing help and support to the world’s 1.5 million seafarers in ports worldwide.

I am one of a squad of 32 rowers, all of whom are involved in the international shipping community, and many of whom (including myself!) had never rowed before training for this event. Training started last July and has involved countless (long!) hours on rowing machines and (even longer!) on the water sessions nearly every weekend since the beginning of November. The boats that will be used are Cornish Pilot Gigs, weighing in at approximately 400kg, so with 6 oars / rowers and a cox onboard at any one time so they take a bit of work to get going!

Mission RASI has been planned to coincide with Singapore Maritime Week and Singapore’s 50th anniversary year.

JustGiving sends your donation straight to The Mission To Seafarers and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.

Any donations received will be very much appreciated and make the pain and suffering (of which there has been and will be plenty!) worthwhile.

Thank you for your support.

Jim
