Over the past couple of years I have taken part in the Butt2Barra Charity cycle event to raise funds for Macmillan. In addition some of the funds raised go to other local charity organisations that work with Macmillan and also Hebrides Search and Rescue who provide support to us on the cycle ride. We will do a total of 180 miles over 3 days taking in a number of Islands and ferry crossings.

I'm also taking part in the Etape Loch Ness again this year which is a 67 mile route round the famous Loch Ness.

We all know someone who has been affected by Cancer. What we probably don't appreciate is what Macmillan do to help those affected by it. I didn't really understand until my father took ill with it in 2007. I was so thankful to the Macmillan nurse who helped us through it all. I say 'us' because while my father was being cared for in hospital the Macmillan nurse was also there for the family while we tried to take it all in and make decisions for his care. I will always remember the nurse sitting with my mother explaining what the doctor was saying and spending time with her to make sure she was ok. 

As a family we are very grateful to Macmillan as I am sure many are. This cycle ride is just a small way of giving back to make sure others continue to get the help and assistance we received.
