Story
last year I joined the SCC bike ride through the Mekong Delta. We rode 240 km (in 3 days) through the padi fields and farms of the delta. An awesome experience and we raised US$52,000 as the riding team. This was used to upgrade a primary school in the Mekong for 320 kids and provided scholarships for some very needy children. This year we are aiming to build a kindergarten, fund 30 primary students all the way through University and fund 500 primary scholarships.
I thought last years challenge was huge! Well this year they have upped the challenge.... 300 Km in 3 days up mountains... So... just a simple 100 Km a day. Only it isn't so simple, we have to ride hills such as up the famous Hai Van Pass! 21 Km of up hill torture with gradients up to 10 Degree-C. Think "Tour De France hill climb up the Pyrenees" (well almost). The Hai Van Pass was described by Jeremy Clarkson (of Top Gear Fame) as "a deserted ribbon of perfection - simply one of the best coast roads in the world. The Hai Van pass (also Ocean Cloud pass), 500 m above sea level... 21 Km long...the most difficult and dangerous in Vietnam...
A challenge I feel compelled to try and hopefully you will feel is worthy of support.
