Story
A couple of weeks ago I decided to take on my toughest challenge and
run Berlin Marathon with only 10 weeks to train. I was inspired by the
infinitely tougher challenge faced by the parents and families of the
children who are patients at the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Many of you will know Matt and Jess our neighbour throughout the years we have been in Bristol. Jess' niece was recently a patient at the GOSH after being diagnosed with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy on the 10th January 2014. A rare disease of the cardiac muscle. She was treated by the cardiac specialist teams at GOSH but sadly deteriorated rapidly until she died on the 24th February. Her battle for life was one she could not win, though she gave it her best shot. Bea and her parents all received exceptional care from everyone at GOSH and the team ensured her passing was pain free and peaceful.
Toby and Leigh, Bea's parents, have set up the Beatrice Octavia Iris Smith Brighter Futures Fund to raise money towards the GOSH helping provide much needed equipment for children who find themselves in the same position.
