Story
On the 25th, 26th and 27th of June team Marston’s will be taking part in the “Aberdovey 3 Day Bike Challenge”. This event is heavily supported by local businesses and the West Midlands Police and because of this support virtually all of the sponsorship goes to charities chosen by the riders. No funds are used for Rider costs. This year we have decided to support the Macmillan Cancer Fund since most of us, at some time in our lives, will be touched by this disease either directly or indirectly.
Only 40 riders have entered the 3 day event and there is added interest this year in that our first day, a circuitous path from York to Sheffield, shares the route of Stage 2 of the Tour de France. Only 129 miles but with total climbs of just under 13000 feet and with a sting in the tail with a mile to go at 33%. Estimated time 10 hours +/- 1 hour depending on weather.
Day 2 is probably the easiest day starting in Sheffield and finishing at the Molineux. This leg is only 80 miles but still over 5000 feet of climbing. Estimated time between 5 and 6 hours.
On the final stage we are joined by another 600 riders when we depart from Molineux and ride due west to Aberdovey. There are two routes, one of 100 miles and one of 123 miles which takes a challenging detour of Dinas Mawddwy. The detour is not compulsory and will depend on legs and weather. Estimated time 8 hours.
