The Thames Water Resourcing Team has put together an elite team of raft racing experts, known as 'The Filthy Oars'. We will be negotiating the white water rapids of the River Thames by Caversham Bridge, on a raft manufactured mainly from blind optimism.
We are doing this to raise money for WaterAid. Thames Water are in the final year of a four year project to raise £2million. Half of this is spent on Thames Water's four adopted towns in Bangladesh, where only 53% of the population has access to safe sanitation and 24% of all deaths are water related.
To put in context what your money can do:
- £3 = a bag of cement for a latrine slab
- £10 = three days training for one hygiene education volunteer
- £75 - a locally manufactured rainwater harvesting system for a family.
- £300 = a hand pump
- £800 = a school toilet block for 200 children
