Story

Thanks for stopping by my JustGiving page.

Cameroon Catalyst is a charity group run by students at the University of Southampton in order to promote the development of rural villages in Cameroon through structure and infrastructure improvements. Students dedicate their time and effort to plan, design and raise funds for projects that meet key village needs in Health, Education and the Economy.

For more information about the group and our past work, visit www.camerooncatalyst.org

This year, Cameroon Catalyst is working in the village of Bambouti, East Cameroon, to develop two homes for the village nurses. The homes are designed using local building materials (such as earth bricks, local timber and bamboo) with an improved design over existing homes in the area; these houses will demonstration improved lighting, thermal insulation and comfort.

Each volunteer for Cameroon Catalyst (we have no paid employees) takes part in a range of fundraising activities - 100% of the proceeds go directly to the project costs. We have been raising funds all year in the UK to meet an ambitious £25,000 goal.

This year, Daniel Crisp and I (two 4th-year Civil Engineers) decided to challenge ourselves in an attempt to raise money for the project. From the 3rd-5th June, we will be walking from the Cameroon High Commission in Shepherds Bush, London, all the way to our own base in the Cameroon Catalyst building on Southampton University Campus. The walk is over 75 miles, and will take approximately 26 hours of walking to complete! Throughout the walk, we will be updating our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/epicwalk , so you can keep up to date with our progress.

We are hoping that if you feel that the cause is worthwhile, you might sponsor the two of us to complete a daunting challenge, and help us to continue to deliver projects of real value to the people of Cameroon.

Charlie Steer.
