As a child I lost both of my grandfathers to cancer. One passed away when I was very young, but I was older when my grandpa was ill. I remember still remember seeing the profound effect on my family and the pain that it caused. It is never quite possible for a family to be quite the same again. 

The work done by cancer research is allowing cancer to be caught earlier, and better treatments to be developed so that families don't have to deal with this pain.
