We have chosen to support the Alzheimers Society because our own work brings us into contact with the reality of this illness, which affects so many people. It affects not just the person with the disability, but family, friends, carers, doctors - and even solicitors - who get drawn into a complex and frightening world. We need research into new cures. We also need to understand and support the coping and caring, with patience and compassion that makes the unbearable bearable.

I am asking for sponsorship not because I am trekking 100 km, leaving my home comforts behind, and risking sore feet and tired limbs, but because it is a cause that is worth supporting. And Edward is giving up his 21st birthday to join us and keep us on the trek.
