Story

Having spent an accumulative 14 years in the Oxford bubble, culminating in a combined 20 job rejections, we thought we'd have more luck taking on the Indian subcontinent than our previous assault on the City.

With the prospect of limited time before the inevitable crawl back to join the rat race, we decided to embark upon a doubtlessly idiotic and certainly stupid adventure traversing the length of the Indian west coast.

Moreover, in the spirit of cultural engagement, we thought it would only be apt to partake in such a journey via rickshaw, or two. Meet a three week adventure - where five mechanically inept friends try to tackle the Indian west coast with no support and no idea how to even change a tyre.

With no India experience between us we sought opinions from our more well-travelled peers. However, when the wisest Indian traveller of them all promptly said 'You'll die' we decided if this was to be the case, we may as well make some money for charity whilst doing it...

To this end, we are supporting a charity very close to the team, Broomwood in Ethiopia, which provides schooling to underprivileged and orphaned kids.  The school opened in March 2014 and provides for 150 children but the aim is to build to a capacity of 700-1000 children. The school will provide every vulnerable child with uniform and necessary school equipment together with two nutritious meals a day, basic healthcare and annual child development checks.

40% of the people of Ethiopia live below the poverty line, earning around $1 a day, and the continuing food and water shortages cause high levels of malnutrition. Schooling opportunities in Ethiopia are limited. Providing free education and care to these vulnerable children can make a world of difference and even a small donation can make a huge impact. Only £2 will provide a child with 2 nutritious meals a day, while £250 will send one child to the school for a year, covering their education and care as well as uniform, stationary and meals.

We'll be heading off end of December and completing our route (hopefully!) by the end of January. We would love you to follow our journey together with us and in keeping with the modern times we have adopted the whole spectrum of social media. Feel free to add / follow / share / obsess over whatever or every medium you fancy.
