Think of a peloton of elite riders, sweeping through the alpine curves, think of podium topping rides, proud moments of pulling on the maillot jaune, think of the Champs Elysee....

Actually, think of a black clad army of Heavy Metal Truants, grinding up hills, desperate for the next bag of Haribo sugar fix, joints aching, muscles cramping, enduring the British Summer and all it throws at us and very importantly raising much needed cash for wonderful charities. THAT'S more like it!

Every year I make the pilgrimage to the hallowed ground of Castle Donington to worship at the Download Festival with 90,000 of my closest friends, and every year we have a blast. 

Once again, I have been afforded the fantastic opportunity by my good, good friend Alexander Milas of Metal Hammer/Team Rock, the fantastic Rod Smallwood and the Heavy Metal Truants to join their gang and make the pilgrimage on two wheels, in order to raise funds for three fantastic charities:

- Nordoff Robbins
- Teenage Cancer Trust
- Childline

All three do vital work over a spectrum of needs for children that are unwell or vulnerable.
