Story

UPDATED APRIL 2015: Thanks to all you wonderful people for your incredibly generous support, and to our family and friends for your enthusiasm in joining in with us.

We have chosen three charities to raise money for, following the death of Howard Kirkham to a Brain Tumour in April 2014. This page is dedicated to our fundraising for the 'Brain Tumour Charity'. Due to the amazing response we've had, we've smashed our original goal, and have raised the bar as you can see.

Our final challenge to complete was the London Marathon which Sara and Richard ran on 26th April 2015. They did amazingly well, completing it in fantastic times, smiling all the way round!

Our previous challenge to raise money for the 'Brain Tumour Charity' (also for 'Headcase') was a 150 mile Coast to Coast cycle from Scarborough to Blackpool via Kirkham in Yorkshire and Kirkham in Lancashire on 11th and 12th April 2015. Apart from a sunny start and finish, we endured some horrendous weather in between but we pulled together as a team to achieve this tough challenge, and despite the weather, had a great time.

Some of our previous challenges which have raised money for the 'Brain Tumour Charity' are...

23/11/2014 - Will Waters (husband of Sara) ran the Conwy Half Marathon. Started outside Conwy Castle, the 13.1 mile route takes in Llandudno and the Great Orme. Will completed the half marathon in 1 hour and 56 minutes! Brilliant stuff!!!

28/09/2014 - Sara, Will, Anna, Matthew and Daniel, plus another 27 family friends, took part in the Brain Tumour Charity Chester Twilight Walk along with 100's more supporters of the Charity. The Kirkham Contingent all completed the 10km route around this beautiful city.

08/08/2014: Amanda, Conor, Richard and Stuart, together with Ed Salt, Jon Sinclair, John Robinson, Cordelia Robinson and Alan Whiston cycled 120 miles from the Kirkham Family home, via Bala in the Snowdonia National Park, to Abersoch in North Wales. All 9 riders completed the challenge, finishing together in under 13 hours!

A Wonderful Man...

Howard was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) Brain Tumour in Jan 2013 and fought with great determination until April 2014 when the aggressive nature of the Grade 4 tumour ultimately became too much.

This particular type of tumour has little funding for research and we are keen to help so that people that go through this in the future have a chance to live longer. The 'Brain Tumour Charity' is one of the three great charities we are supporting across all our 12 challenges, and is the leading charity in its field, investing in world-class, pioneering research. The other two charities can be accessed through our JustGiving 'Team' Page.

Please support us in our various challenges. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity - it’s the most efficient way to donate.
