We aim to find a cure for GBM brain tumours to stop GBM killing 5,000 adults per year

Story

UPDATED APRIL 2015: Thanks to all you wonderful people for your incredibly generous support, and to our family and friends for your enthusiasm in joining in with us.

We have chosen three charities to raise money for, following the death of Howard Kirkham to a Brain Tumour in April 2014. This page is dedicated to our fundraising for 'Headcase' Cancer Trust. Due to the amazing response we've had, we've smashed our original goal, and have raised the bar as you can see.

Our last challenge to raise money for 'Headcase' (also for the 'Brain Tumour Charity') was a 150 mile Coast to Coast cycle from Scarborough to Blackpool via Kirkham in Yorkshire and Kirkham in Lancashire on 11th and 12th April 2015. Apart from a sunny start and finish, we endured some horrendous weather in between but we pulled together as a team to achieve this tough challenge, and despite the weather, had a great time.

Some of our previous challenges which have raised money for 'Headcase' are:

12/10/2014 - Richard Kirkham completed the Lakes in a Day Ultra Marathon, running 53.6miles across the Lake District, from Caldbeck to Cartmel in an amazing 16hours 38mins, climbing 4108m of ascent - an incredible achievement. Richard thanks his wife Rhona, and family friend Simon Jones in particular for running with him in sections of the race.

14/09/2014 - Stuart, Richard & Rhona Kirkham, with Andrew Summers, Rob Allen, Ollie Berkin, Ed Salt, and Ben Brown completed the National Three Peaks in 23hours 23mins, climbing the 3,000 vertical metres and travelling the 480 miles between Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. An amazing physical challenge.

08/08/2014: Amanda, Conor, Richard and Stuart, together with Ed Salt, Jon Sinclair, John Robinson, Cordelia Robinson and Alan Whiston cycled 120 miles from the Kirkham Family home, via Bala in the Snowdonia National Park, to Abersoch in North Wales. All 9 riders completed the challenge, finishing together in under 13 hours!

A Wonderful Man...

Howard Kirkham was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) Brain Tumour in Jan 2013 and fought with great determination until April 2014 when the aggressive nature of the Grade 4 tumour ultimately became too much.

This particular type of tumour has little funding for research and we are keen to help so that people that go through this in the future have a chance to live longer. 'Headcase' is one of the three great charities we are supporting across all our 12 challenges, and is the only Charity in the UK which dedicates it's funding solely into research to find a cure for GBM Brain Tumours. The other two charities can be accessed through our JustGiving 'Team' Page.

Please support us in our various challenges. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity - it’s the most efficient way to donate.
