Racing for the lives lost to cancer.

With a big team of ladies from the offices at Safe in Leicester, Cllr Renata Jones will be taking part in the Race for Life to raise money for charity Cancer Research this year.

Running the 5k version of race for life in July this year in Leicester, Renata tells us she is 'taking part to raise funds in memory of my relatives who suffered from cancer, and to stop further families losing loved ones to cancer'.

Renata has seen many relatives suffer and some die from the effects of cancer. Whilst still attending primary school, Renata's grandfather Fred Jones passed away from lung cancer. Both Renata's great aunt Eleanor Kitchener, and great great grandmother Sarah Whiteman suffered from breast cancer. Renata's grandmother Catherine Bance suffered from bowel cancer. Her grandfather Eric Bance suffered from leukemia, a cancer which attacks the bone marrow and the blood. Most recently, grandmother Gladys Jones passed from cancer too.

'Cancer is a disease on borrowed time', Renata tells us. 'Cancer Research are funding work to find out how to stop cancer, I firmly believe one day a cure will be found' she adds.
