Story

The Ultimate 150 Run & Cycle.........where do I start?!

First of all thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, your support is greatly appreciated.

Cancer is something that unfortunately has affected most families at some time including my own and I want to help raise us much as I can for Cancer Research UK to continue the fasntastic work they do in the fight against this horrible disease.  Please join us in the fight against cancer.

So, the Ultimate 150 Run & Cycle 2014 challenge. Who's idea was this? You know it wasn't mine, that's for sure. It was my friend Ross who just loves these sorts of challenges as well as raising as much money as possible for a fantastic cause.

I need to be honest, I'm not doing any running! I've decided, along with a couple of others, to cycle the full distance as mountain-biking is more my cup 'o tea!  So what are we doing? Well we're cycling the West Highland Way and if that wasn't enough a further 55 miles to Broxburn, all in four days.  The most I've cycled in one day before is 25 miles so this i much much more - I'm just hopeful that I can sit down at the end of it! Whilst it will be a serious challenge for me and my fellow cyclists it will be a different league for those who are running - I can't even contemplate what they are undertaking in running the WHW in 3 days, then finishing it off with a leisurely (not!) cycle.

The route:

West Highland Way - this famous 96 mile trail undulates across countryside, hills, moors and moutains; while underfoot is a combination of country lanes, forest tracks and rocky, uneven and muddy loch and riverside paths. Its not really designed for cycling, so it's not going to be an easy task - in fact we cant afford to underestimate the fitness and levels of endurance required to see us through to the end.

Kelvin Walkway - under normal circumstances, this 9 mile cycle from Milngavie to the River Clyde, would be pretty straightforward, however, with 96 miles of cycling behind us, this won't be a walk in the park!

National Cycle Route 75 - the final stage will see us, and hopefully many more, cycle from Glasgow Green, for 45 miles to Bathgate, before taking the cycle path along the A89 to Broxburn, where we hope a crowd will be there to cheer us over line!! Hopefully with food and much needed drinks (and hugs!)

So who are my fellow mentalists joining me from Fort William to Broxburn?

Ross Mackey, Kev Andrews, Michael Lynch, Tam Lynch, Ellie Forgan, Donna Mackey, Graeme (Mo) Morrison, Gary Sloan, Gordon Newlands, David Gowans, Alan Gray, Graham McManus. We all hugely appreciate your support - we'll need every bit of it!

By simply visiting this page, you are helping so much.

Thank you.

Do you know anyone who might want to to join us on the cycle from Glasgow to West Lothian? After 3 gruelling days along the West Highland Way, we will be undoubtedly need support from family, friends and others to motivate us on to endure those final 45 miles.....
