Story

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page.

In August 2013, Ava was diagnosed as having a cancerous tumor in one of her kidneys. She had to undergo surgery to remove the affected kidney and will continue with chemotherapy until April this year. Her overall prognosis is very positive.

It has been a very difficult time for Ava's whole family, but especially for her Mum, Claire and Dad, Robert. Ava's 8 year old sister, Martha, has also had much to cope with and has been a great distraction for Ava during those times when she hasn't felt too good.

While Ava was a patient at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, during the early stages of her illness, and when she returned in September for her surgery, Claire and Robert were given the use of a room within a purpose built facility called Acorn House. This facility is for the parents, carers and siblings of sick children. It is unlike a hospital environment and offers a degree of home comfort during stressful times. A quiet place where time out can be taken and very much a 'home from home'.

Acorn House is run by the Sick Childrens Trust and relies solely on charitable donations to keep the facility running. We want to be able to raise money to give back to Acorn House as they gave to Ava's family in their time of need. It will go toward enabling them to continue to provide this 'home form home' for the future families of other sick children.

So, on May 16th 2014, we will begin Ava's G.N.R.O! Robert, Ava's Dad, Nigel and Doug, Ava's uncles and 7 other middle aged and mildly unfit men, will embark on a 3 day, 240mile cycle ride around the borders of Norfolk. We will start in Diss and head up towards Hunstanton, following the coastline round to Southwold before heading back to Diss, completing our journey.

We are asking for a donation, however big or small, so as to raise as much money as we can for a charity that is vital in the support of the families of sick children.

We are training hard and to see that we are en route to reaching our target amount will give us an untold amount of motivation and determination to complete the ride. The G.N.R.O Team members are:-

Robert Wattam (Dad)

Nigel Huddlestone (Uncle)

Douglas Trudgill (Uncle)

Neil Taylor

Nicholas Self

Nick Culley

Tim Peacock

James Button

Craig Hopper

Jason Wyatt

Many thanks, in advance, for your generous donation, The G.N.R.O Team
