Story
My little girl Lauren (Lolly) has Rett Syndrome. At the age of 2, the symptoms of this wretched, life-limiting condition changed her life. She lost the ability of speech, mobility and all purposeful movement of her hands. Her spine is starting to curve and she has to rely on other people for every aspect of her life.
Currently there are no treatments for the condition, but in 2007 a full reversal was demonstrated in the lab. Since then, research projects have been able to focus and target the faulty gene responsible and in the last 12 months huge advances have been made which brings us much hope. My wife, Helen, is a Trustee for the charity Reverse Rett here in the UK. Reverse Rett (www.reverserett.org.uk) funds vital research projects which will hopefully move that reversal from the lab in to hospitals providing viable treatments for girls and women like Lauren suffering with Rett today.
That day simply can't come quick enough for us - to unlock our little girl again. So, on May 10th I will be setting off across the South Downs on a 60K (that's 60K!!) walk to help raise as much as I can to help. It's a mighty long walk and very, very hilly by all accounts but nothing compares to the challenges Lauren struggles with every single day.
Months of training and sheer determination will get me round (I hope!) but will be made a little easier knowing I've raised what I can to speed up that treatment to help Lauren get better. If you are able to sponsor me at this time it would be very, very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Andy
