Story
On 27th July 2013 our 15 year old son Ben had a serious accident when his push bike collided with a range rover. His injuries were serious and Magpas were called to assist in his care. THe picture in the top left corner is one that was taken at the scene of Ben's accident.
Magpas are unique in that they always fly a doctor and a paramedic to the scene. (Other air ambulances usually fly two paramedics and then call a doctor if required.) Having Doctor Lewis and paramedic Andy Carr at the scene meant the Ben could be sedated properly to remove him from the bonnet of the car without causing further pain and discomfort. Together with the ambulance crews they managed a complicated extraction before transporting Ben to Addenbrookes.
It costs £600 per hour to fly the helicopter, the drugs, emergency life saving equipment are all extra. The doctor, paramedic and co-pilot are all unpaid volunteers.
I would like to raise £1200 or more if possible to cover the two hours of helicopter time used by Ben.
To do this myself and an ever growing group of fabulous people will run, walk, cycle or row a total of1200 kilometers in the month of March 2014. If you would like to join us please email me on massivemagpasmarathon@gmail.com or visit our facebook page.
