Thank you for visiting Team Brighton YMCA's fundraising page. If you would like to support our runners as a team, in the Brighton Half Marathon, please use this page to donate.

Brighton YMCA's runners in the 2014 Brighton Half Marathon are: John Osborne, Kerry Stevens, Jan Spencer-Smith, Shawn Timmons, Casey Clarke, Anita Thomas, Chris Hall, Liz Tomlinson, Berta Norman, Emma Crossland, Noeleen Connolly, Alex Cuncev, Catherine Osborne.

The money you donate will be used for the following two causes:

1.    Arts Exhibition at Brighton Festival Fringe 2014

Part of the money will go towards securing participation for Brighton YMCA in Brighton Festival 2014.

In 2014 George Williams Centre will hold an Art Exhibition within the Brighton Festival Fringe. This will enable George Williams Centre clients to exhibit their own art work within a major art festival. Thus clients will have a platform to show their work, tell their story and promote the therapeutic benefits of art. The project will also allow clients to be involved in the planning and running of an exhibition. Lastly, the participation at a major arts festival will raise the profile and promote the benefits of George Williams Life skills Centre and Brighton YMCA as a whole.

2.    New computer suite at William Collier House

Another part of the money will go towards funding a new computer suite at William Collier House. The project have too few and out of date computers. They need 3 computers for the lounge, which will be used by clients to apply for benefits (online only from October), search for volunteering positions, work and courses and keep in touch with family members.

Additionally and depending on the amount raised, we will purchase 2 tablets for keyworking with clients. This will allow keyworkers to complete the Outcome Star directly on the website during keyworking with the client. By cutting down on paperwork, this will free time for staff to interact with clients. Keyworking sessions will become more effective, as access to a computer will allow for instant searches for resources and faster reactions to queries from clients.

The benefits for clients are many fold. The up to date computer system will increase computer literacy and will facilitate keeping up with welfare changes. An increased number of computers will make the staff team more efficient and thus more able to focus on interaction with the clients and other activities which in turn improve clients’ lifestyle and opportunities.
