Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It is a sad reality that worldwide nearly 3 million babies die every year in their first month of life and over a million on their first day. As a baby, I almost died twice before my first birthday – once due to a complication at birth, and again at 11 months due to a mysterious infection.
One of the major reasons infant mortality remains high in poor countries is the critical shortage of nurses who are appropriately trained in newborn care. In Vietnam, neonatal mortality (newborns) accounts for 50% of deaths of those less than five. It is hard to believe that so many newborns die every year.
I owe my survival to alert, well-trained and well-equipped nurses at two hospitals in Singapore.
That’s why I am cycling about 440 km in 3 days to raise funds for neonatal nurse training and lifesaving equipment in Vietnam. It is a big personal challenge, but one I am inspired to do to give others the same chances that I had.
So, please support my ride; help improve the life chances of newborns in Vietnam!
