Robert Broude was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was only 17 years old. He died after a 2 ½ year battle at the age of 19 in 2004.

Rob was treated at the Young Oncology Unit (YOU) at The Christie in Manchester - the YOU is a dedicated unit for 16-23 year olds who have cancer.

Rob underwent numerous courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and had 2 major operations. During this time he continued to live as normal a life as possible, carrying on with his education at The Manchester Grammar School and even managed to achieve his ambition of going to University. He spent one term at Sheffield University before he died.

Rob’s family and friends raised £250,000 for a new Day Care Unit at the YOU, which is known as “Rob’s Day Unit”, and continue to raise money for better equipment and facilities, in memory of Rob.

However the existing YOU is now not fit for purpose and young people with cancer are entitled to the best possible treatment, care and chance of recovery. A new YOU is being built and Rob’s Day Unit will be an integral part, therefore we are committed to continue fundraising to achieve a goal of £400.000.
