A year ago a dear friend of many of us took a journey to the Roof of Africa raising over £3000 for Childreach.

Sarah's death earlier this year in Kashmir was an utter tradgedy and has devasted many. But through this shared sadness Sarah's family and friends have come together in the most astonishing display of love and remembrance evident through the thousands of posts and comments on social media sites and the incredible turn out at her memorial service in Guernsey earlier this year.

Following on from this and living by Sarah's strong belief in adventure, making a change and striving to inspire ourselves and others, a group of us are climbing Kilimanjaro next year two years after Sarah herself reached the summit. Me and a few others on the trip will particularly be representing all of us who were lucky to spend 7 laughter filled years with Sarah at St Mary's Ascot.

We will be raising money for the Sarah Groves Memorial Fund which was set up in her memory.

Sarah's inspirations in life came from children, art, fitness and adventure and a Memorial Fund has been established in Guernsey to support these four things.  It has full Trust status and is administered by the Guernsey Community Foundation www.foundation.gg

 

Funds allocated to Children will provide facilities, experiences and opportunities to young persons under the age of 16 that would otherwise be out of their reach financially or from an organisational perspective.  In many cases participants will come from deprived backgrounds both locally and overseas. Funds allocated to Art will provide educational experiences, opportunities and equipment to young persons under the age of 21 that would otherwise be out of their reach financially or organisationally. 20% of funds available within this category go towards an art bursary at Sarah’s school in Ascot where she spent 7 very happy years and where they still have very fond memories of her. Income will be generated by Adventure and Fitness (for example, people running marathons or going on expeditions).

 

This Memorial Fund represents Sarah and her inspirational philosophy of life.

I will be paying all my travel and accommodation costs myself so 100% of what I raise here will go to the fund. Any donations are incredibly welcome. Lets do this for Sarah!
