Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Who would have thought that ARMPITS were a feminist issue? Not me, not until I went through a phase of not shaving them - let's face it, it's painful, time consuming and frankly unnecessary - and was surprised at how many negative comments I received, both from friends and from strangers in the street.

I bowed to the pressure and began to remove my hair again, until I saw the Armpits 4 August campaign and thought, well, why the hell should I? My body belongs to ME, not anyone else, and if I don't want to remove my body hair then that is up to ME, and not society to dictate how I should or shouldn't look!

The best thing about this, is that I get to make a statement (and that really tells you everything you need to know, that non-removal of body hair as a female is a genuinely subversive political statement) and I get to raise money for a great cause. Polycistic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female disorders, yet it's not really spoken about. Symptoms include acne and hirsutism, along with obesity and irregular menstruation. It's unpleasant, it affects only women and yet most women have never even heard about it.

It's time to stand in solidarity with our sisters, it's time to make our voices heard.
