We fund research into SMA to help find a cure and treatments

Story

Cartworth Moor Cricket club organised and hosted a Twenty20 cricket match on Saturday 21st September to help raise awareness and funds for The SMA Trust.

It was a grand day out ... in more ways than one.

Watching (or playing) cricket, eating burgers and cake, sitting in the sunshine. What more could anyone want on a Saturday afternoon?

Well, add a fantastic fund-raising result and it’s easy to understand why there were some pretty satisfied expressions around Cartworth Moor Cricket Club this weekend.

All the planning, organising, hard work, cooking, baking, playing, raffling, bidding and monkey-making saw £1,000 raised for Team Rowan and The SMA Trust. (£940 by the club and £60 by Trish and her monkeys).

The day started well....the sun was out. We couldn't have asked for better weather, especially after the rain and gales of the previous few days. Throughout the afternoon, many supporters came along, enjoyed the game, the BBQ and the club’s fundraising efforts.

The teams played 25 overs each – clearly everyone was enjoying themselves so much, they forgot it was a 20/20 game! Team Rowan just lost out, scoring 173, with Scott’s XI scoring 174 off 23 overs.

The auction did well, with some last-minute negotiations with two bidders over the Yorkshire CCC signed Jedi cricket bat and one bidder outbidding themselves for the rug from Dixon & Franks.

It was a great afternoon, raising awareness of The SMA Trust and followed news that human clinical trials have been approved to begin early 2014 to hopefully find a cure for SMA. It's another step closer and highlights why awareness and raising money for The SMA Trust is so worthwhile.

Massive thanks to everyone who took part in any way, who planned the event, who turned up to fry sausages, slice bread, sell cakes, make endless cups of tea, wash up, take to the wicket, score, umpire and sell merchandise. A special thanks to all the supporters who dug deep and helped raise this magnificent sum and to all the businesses and individuals who contributed and donated towards the day.
